Abstract

Walter Newton Preserve was donated to the town by conservationists Ruth, Henry Walter and Suzanne Newton. Now, it is a well known hiking trail for students, citizens, and tourists who use its 163 acres in a variety of ways. Visitors have observed beaver, deer, moose and the occasional black bear in the wetland and forested area. It’s beautiful Rainbow Falls is an attraction that helps bring tourists from all different types of places. It is a valuable and loved resource in our community. However as we know there are ways to improve the preserve. What is the water quality like? Is it safe for tourists? What about the trails, are they safe and supportive enough for the amount of visitors per year? Are there any outdoor education opportunities? Is it being utilized to its full potential? This is what we will be researching in our presentation.
