Objectives: Student groups enrolled in the winter term course, CO5070 Research Design in the Helping Professions, partnered with the Communities for Alcohol and Drug-free Youth (CADY) to develop or identify program evaluation instruments for specific CADY programs that address specific societal issues. Students learned the importance of identifying a societal need supported by research literature, investigating where the gaps exist between what the CADY program is evaluating and what the literature identifies as important considerations in improving outcomes of the program. Students learned how to identify and operationalize a variable to measure and either develop or identify an instrument that CADY can use for program evaluation based on this variable.
