Abstract

Lyme Disease, a growing concern among Northeast and Midwest areas in the United States has caused many questions to be raised. According to the CDC, approximately 300,000 cases of diagnosed Lyme Disease have been reported. This study aims to understand the Knowledge and training of the Medical Professionals and what information patients are receiving. Researchers will be conducting a qualitative research, where approximately 20 subjects will be interviewed from the medical field on their knowledge and training with ticks and tick borne illnesses. During the interview process, multiple questions will be regarding how the subjects acquired their knowledge and utilize it in practice. Researchers will also be recording all interview dialogue via voice recordings and handwritten notes. With the results from the interviews, researchers will understand the medical professionals’ views on Lyme disease and whether they are receiving training on this disease. As well, researchers will be able to better understand if the training is sufficient enough and if patients are receiving information or education from their providers about this disease.
