Professional Development Schools (PDS), Problems of Practice and Cluster Integration

Abstract

This session will define PSU's Holmes Center "Problems of Practice" model of professional development schools (PDS) and engage in dialogue on the opportunities it presents for Cluster integration and projects. Central to a PDS model is engagement by faculty across systems, meaning that in addition to traditional education faculty, a successful PDS draws on the collective expertise of ALL university faculty. When implemented from this ideological position, transformation of public schools is an attainable goal. PSU has the opportunity to be a first in the nation model of PDS because of our unique Cluster model of learning and guiding youth towards life readiness (rather than simply job readiness). This session will provide opportunities for interested faculty to generate topics that they would like the Holmes Center to consider and reflect upon with our PDS schools and school districts.
